Donning the bridal gown during the first two locations of our pre-wedding shoot, Frederick and Michelle concluded the last location with a casual outfit. It was like a breath of fresh air for Michelle, to be able to change out of the heavy bridal gown.

Opting for casual outfits during your pre-wedding shoot can be an absolute win! Here’s why:

Firstly, casual wear is easy and comfortable. Just look at Frederick and Michelle, they can move freely and comfortably. No stiff collars, no restrictive fabrics, just both of them at ease. Imagine strolling hand in hand, sharing whispered secrets, or stealing kisses without worrying about adjusting their formal gown or suit. Casual outfits make those candid moments effortless.

Secondly, being casual brings out authenticity and relatability. When you’re comfortable, your true personalities shine through. I get to capture the real you — the laughter, the quirks, the inside jokes. These shots feel relatable to viewers because they depict everyday moments. Being casual encourage genuine interactions. You’ll find yourselves laughing, whispering sweet nothings, and sharing stories. Think of it as a relaxed date where the camera happens to be there. Those unscripted smiles are priceless!

Thirdly, in casual outfits give you location freedom. That means, if you want to dance in a park, kick off your shoes, or run through a field, the casual outfits say, “Go ahead!” They’re perfect for spontaneous adventures.

As Frederick and Michelle embracing the comfort and be themselves, their love shine through those casual threads.

The shoot went unexpectedly well at Firangi Superstar after our initial plan to shoot at Jurong Lake Gardens was ruined by the heavy thunderstorm. The sky cleared up with the weather now in our favor. We proceeded to National Gallery for our second location. National Gallery has always been a beloved shooting location amongst the wedding couples.

The magnificent National Gallery is a place where art, history, and romance converge. It’s architecture is nothing short of breathtaking. Imagine strolling through elegant corridors, surrounded by colonial-style facades and intricate details. It’s like stepping into a historical romance novel. Every corner whispers timeless elegance.

Another reason for its popularity is for its indoor convenience. As we all know, Singapore’s weather can be a bit… shall we say, enthusiastic? For couples who prefer not to melt under the tropical sun, the National Gallery offers indoor spaces. No need to worry about rain or humidity during the pre-wedding shoot.

Not to mention, the gallery restricts personal photoshoots to the morning hours (between 7:30 am and 9:30 am) before it opens to the public. That means we’ll have the place almost to ourselves — no photobombing tourists!

Back to the main topic of this post, this is the first part of a 3-part series of Frederick and Michelle’s pre-wedding. This post came late (as usual), as I have already posted their wedding last year. As the saying goes, it is better late than never.

Frederick and Michelle’s pre-wedding was supposed to start in the early morning. We were so hyped so as we travelled afar to Jurong Lake Gardens for our first location. Unfortunately, heavy rain and I mean really heavy rain came pouring down just as we started shooting. Even though we took cover in a nearby minuscule shelter, we were still getting drenched from head to toes. That’s when we decided to cancel the morning shoot. Sigh~

When one door closes, another opens. Because we failed to shoot at the beautiful Jurong Lake Gardens, another opportunity open up for us. We managed to get special permission to shoot at this unique and modern Indian restaurant that Frederick is working as a chef — Firangi Superstar. This restaurant is amazingly beautiful, it is cosy and warm and affectionate. The interior is outrageous so to speak and has vibrant themed rooms and decor that transports us to another world. The entire ambience is just so cinematic and we were just so thrilled to shoot over here.

A new year and a new post to kickoff a fresh beginning. Happy 2023 everyone!

I remember my first post of 2022 that I will write more often and post more pictures in my blog. And I achieved that! Now, here is 2023 and I believed I can do it even better this year. Haven’t felt this motivated for such a long time. Especially with the support that came from my faithful clients and vendors that allowed me to create more contents and beautiful images. Thank you, guys, for the unwavering trust in me.

Yvonne and ZT were referred by Vienna of Giorgia Couture. Vienna and I have worked together on many occassions. She has been really nice to introduce her couples over numerous times. I will probably share our styled shoot collaboration that we did last year in the next post. Watch out for that!

This series of images was actually taken last year in February. Usually, I will not share the images until the couple’s wedding is over. Generally, the pictures are kept out of public eyes so that there is still an element of surprise for the couple’s guests on their wedding day. This requires a lot of patience especially a prewedding shoot often takes place three to six months before the wedding. Then again, sometimes the excitement to share often get hold of me and I will release one or two images as teasers or previews.

National Gallery is definitely a popular location for prewedding photoshoots. Over here, one can escape from the heat on a sunny day or take shelter from the rain on a wet day. Labrador Park is, however, a place that I haven’t step into for a long long time. This park holds a sentimental value to Yvonne and ZT since this is their dating ground. So many fond memories were made. It is no wonder why they picked this location as one of their photoshoot venues.

I am asked over and over. “Do you edit the wedding photos?”. “How do you edit the wedding photos?”. You want things to look their best, so yes, I do edit the wedding photos. Every image is hand edited.

How I edit wedding photos

Let’s start with how I don’t edit wedding photos. A lot of photographers use Lightroom and just apply presets. Presets are often like applying the same Instagram filter to everything. I don’t do this.

Sometimes wedding photographers send a selection of your photographs to be edited by a third party, often in other countries. I am proud of the quality of my own work, therefore I never offload it to third-party editors.

I use Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Photoshop to do my own editing. This is a more consistent and creative way of editing than using presets. Yes, it’s more work, but the results speak for themselves.

Particularly when it comes to photoshoots, we have wedding photoshoots and pre-wedding photoshoots. Therefore, when I edit these photos, I split them into two categories, basic editing and advanced retouching. All photos taken during the wedding and pre-wedding will go through basic editing as the first step. Couples who signed up for the pre-wedding photography package get to choose a certain number of photos for advanced retouching.

Enough talking, let’s delve into the topic of how I edit my wedding photos.

Basic Editing

Light editing is what I want to achieve, not radically changing things. (You might want to zoom in on some of the pictures to spot the differences after the edit)

• Refine exposure and brightness, colour balance, and contrast

• Straighten and square things up if needed, so vertical lines are vertical, horizontal lines are horizontal

• Crop the image artistically

Advanced Retouching

This is what I do in Photoshop. (You might want to zoom in on some of the pictures to spot the differences after the edit)

• Remove spots, breakouts, stray hairs, eye bags, and blemishes from the skin

• Remove unavoidable distractions from backgrounds (bins, fire extinguishers, marks on floors, etc.)

• Remove distracting objects

• Subtle skin smoothing and removing hotspots on the face

• Fix any wardrobe issues, creases on gowns, marks on suits, etc.

• Add surrounding elements to fill in the spaces

• Add dramatic lighting for aesthetic effects

• Liquidfy for either slimming or shaping

• Signature colour toning

Out of all these editing techniques, this one has probably the biggest effect. Yellows and greens tend to be oversaturated during a bright sunny day and bringing the saturation down a little bit will change the mood significantly. And I also added an earthy tone to create my own signature style.

Of course, I allow my couples to pick which toning style (natural, vibrant or Signature tone) they prefer for their photos.

Lots of time and effort

All this detailed work takes a lot of hands-on computer time dealing with files, backing up and editing. Some photos need hours of editing time each, others just need over 10 minutes. Either way, a whole wedding takes many weeks of full-time work to edit perfectly.

This is the final instalment of the series. Check out the first two posts which we shot in a multi-storey car park and in the homey residence.

These three posts feature a styled shoot I did late last year. Collaborated with the amazing teams from Louvre Bridal and Ana Hana Flower, together we created this series of beautiful images that I would like to share with all the wedding couples out there.

Rustic prewedding themes are always a popular choice, especially among couples who want a cool and relaxed vibe during their photoshoot. The theme is typically inspired by nature and the great outdoors, often incorporating many floral and woodsy accents, as well as decorative details that evoke a countryside flair.

As the sun gradually set closer and closer to the horizon, daylight was diminishing fast, and soon dusk fell. We brought a couple of props to sprinkle in some fun for this prewedding shoot. Firstly, we had our sparklers. With the dazzling sparklers, the couple was like embracing their inner child and having so much fun playing. Right before them, I captured their love that is shining as bright as the sparklers. Secondly, we brought the popular fairy lights. Fairy lights exude a classy vibe, which creates the perfect opportunity to capture captivatingly extraordinary moments. The result is a romantic touch that leaves the photos looking magical.

The final post of the three-part series. You can check out the first post here (Photoshoot in National Gallery Singapore) and the second post here (Photoshoot in Singapore Botanic Gardens). This is like a mini-series, not overloaded with tonnes of pictures and then slowed down the loading in the process. With fewer pictures, I feel that one can slowly take their time to admire the craft and the beauty within the images, which the couple and myself had spent so much effort trying to create. Moreover, I categorized the post by the location that we shot in. In this manner, my prospects or even other photographers can easily search and reference these pictures when they want to use that location for their shoot.

Eric and Carole’s shoot brought us to National Gallery, an urban landscape, and Botanic Gardens, a greenery landscape. Which was why we decided our third location should be somewhere we can have a bit more fun and candid moments. Thus, onwards to our next location at The Oval in Seletar Aerospace Park, right next to the Seletar Airport. This place holds a slice of Singapore’s colonial past. Numerous black and white bungalows were built and have been slated for conservation. There’s even a scenic boardwalk where everyone can catch a perfect view of planes taking off and landing. Almost forgot to mention, amongst the whimsical dining restaurants and open spaces lies an aviation-theme playground.

The perfect place where I can get the couple to let down their hair.
