Whether it’s a Singaporean marrying a French partner, an Indian wedding with Singaporean flair, or any other combination, these unions celebrate diversity and unity. Featuring in this post is Jon and Liza, a Singaporean groom and an Ukrainian bride. Having their solemnization amidst the lush greenery of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Jon and Liza took their oath to become husband and wife. Their solemnization weave together love stories that span continents. They remind us the love transcends borders.

How wonderful to have the couple donning in Ukrainian traditional costumes during the ceremony! A wedding in traditional attire is a celebration of cultural heritage and personal style. These costumes aren’t just fabrics. They carry stories, blessings, and generations of tradition. I love how Jon and Liza’s wedding day is just a beautiful fusion of love and culture!

Valerie is a friend. And photographing a friend’s solemnization is nothing like anything comparing to how I shoot for my other couples. Inadvertently, there’s this pressure of shooting well, so not to disappoint her (or end up losing our personal relationship), thus more hard work. In spite of that, I’m actually enjoying and immersing myself to the joyous spirits and love around the unification.

Naoki and Valerie’s solemnization has been special, small and intimate, graced by family members and close friends. Naoki is special, a shy Japanese and a man of few words. And Valerie, too, is special in the heart of Naoki. There is one more thing that is very special and unique and that’s the solemnization dress. It was specially designed by Valerie’s close friend. One of a kind, this piece of elegant short dress was inspired from the Japanese Kimono. When Valerie slipped it in, she was simply kawaii!

Congratulations, Naoki and Valerie. When I look back at the pictures, they fill me up with warmth and love, and I hope when you guys look at them, they will give you the same emotions that I felt. These are the indistinguishable feelings which I felt from the both of you.

The small, yet intimate crowd surrounding the two on that sultry tropical day, applauded warmly. It was then that he gently put his hand behind her back, pulled her in close to him and their lips pressed onto each other. It was their first kiss as the newly minted husband and wife. Both smiled with their eyes gleaming with affection, and at the same time both fully immersed in the realization and appreciation of that moment. It was palpable. You could tell that they were delighting in the sweetness of the love shared and the love shown between them.

And I could see it. My eyes never leave them. He would quietly clasp her hands when no one would be looking. It was sprinkled across the intent gaze of pure tenderness that Michelle gave Danny when he was giving his vow. It was laced in between the spontaneous embraces he would give her. And it was clearly evident, when his ear-to-ear smile did not leave his face, from the moment he walked down the aisle with his bride til the last pair of feet were ushered out that day.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful solemnization with me, Danny and Michelle! It was such a joy to witness such a small and intimate wedding, see the real laughter, the real tears, the real embraces, and the real moments unfold between just you and your closest family members. Much love!!

I get asked by quite a number of couples if I offer two wedding photographers package or if I bring a second photographer with me when I photograph their wedding. I also usually get asked if two wedding photographers are really necessary. To be honest, I love to have a second shooter with me at every wedding. Sure, there are times when a second shooter isn’t necessary or feasible (and it’s almost always cost-related), but ideally having one around is recommended. Why? I’m glad you asked.

Having a second photographer allows me to be in more than one place at the same time. On a wedding day, most of the times the bride will be getting ready in her house while the groom gets ready in his own house. I will start off from the bride’s place while the second photographer will be at the groom’s place capturing him getting ready. During the ceremony, it’s wonderful to have two different views and perspectives of everything that happens. While I’m photographing the bride walking down the aisle with her father, my second shooter can focus on the groom waiting eagerly at the end of the passage. Who wouldn’t want both of those photos?

Second photographer can focus on details while I worry about the big picture. I rely on my second shooter to capture many of the detail shots throughout the day when timing is really tight, but I also rely on them to help keep an eye on things that shouldn’t be in the picture. Ideally, I’d notice those things as well, but two pair of eyes are always better than one pair.

A second shooter provides backup in case something get missed. I’m not just talking about the kiss. I’m talking about all of the moments that are constantly happening at the weddings. Family members who haven’t seen each other in years sharing a laugh. Little kids being little kids. Ridiculous friends doing ridiculous things. Hugs, smiles, tears. They happen all day long. They can’t all be photographed, but with two photographers around, the odds are pretty good that the big ones won’t be missed.

Second shooters are like an insurance policy. Unfortunately, no matter how much we plan and how careful we are, sometimes bad things can happen. A car accident, memory card failure or broken piece of gear at just the wrong moment are the nightmares for wedding photographers. With a second shooter, the risk is greatly minimized. Personally, I only work with second shooters who are full-time photographers and who I would trust to shoot the entire wedding as if it were their own. That way, if something bad happens *touch wood*, you’ve still got a legit photographer who I know and trust with you who can make the magic happen!

Let’s bring the topic back to Melvin and Winny’s beautiful wedding. I got Linny to shoot alongside with me and just take a look at all those wonderful moments captured by us! Linny’s photos complement mine and the whole series feels so complete, like not a moment has been missed. Tears had been shed many times throughout the wedding, by the couple themselves and by their parents and friends. I’m so glad we caught all these loving and touching moments which I believe will touch Melvin and Winny’s hearts again when they look back at their pictures in time to come.

Best friends, turned lovers.

It never ceases to amaze me, when I meet two souls who have been the closest of friends for the longest of years, only to discover the spark for each other a little later in life. Maybe it’s because I walked down the “love at first sight” path myself, but best friends who fall in love after years of knowing each other and being intertwined in each other’s lives has always been a heart warming mystery to me. And a joyful one at that. Especially for these two, because they are both incredible warm and kind-hearted souls.

Thank you for such an incredible privilege guys!! I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – You two have a love that encourages, and that is so special. I know the sky turned gloomy during solemnization, but I hope these frames warm your heart and make you smile in the years to come.

Their wedding might be over for more than a year, their gowns and suits stowed away, this loving couple’s wedding remains in my memories but in a fuzzy manner, like a fog shrouded over the memories. I might not remember all of it, like the delicate details or the groomsmen’s faces, but as I was preparing Lenz and Evelyn’s wedding pictures for the blog, the memories become crystal clear again. It is such an amazing thing, isn’t it. Memories fade away with time and if not for the pictures, we can get to relive those special moments.

In another four months time, Lenz and Evelyn will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary. Isn’t that great? Sharing the same love of flying around the world, this is probably just one of the many passions that they like to do together. Not many couples have this privilege and I’m pretty sure Lenz and Evelyn treasure such fortune close to their hearts. With these frames, I hope they are something you can look back and reminisce as you continue to walk the journey of life hand in hand together, and remember how much you love one another.

This blog is in serious need of a wedding post, I know :) So I hope this one makes up for it. If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, as usual, I’ve been busy with peak season, and on top of it, I’m a few weeks behind schedule on everything just because this past month I’ve had the worst flu I’ve ever had in years. I’m still not 100% better yet so things have just been a bit stressful trying to balance life and work, and attempting to get better. So praying that I get over this bug soon!! It’s been driving me mad! Anyhow, onto the photos!!

I don’t know what to say about this wedding. Really. And that’s weird for me, because I usually have too many words, but for once, I am at a loss for what to write because I don’t think anything I will type here will do justice to everything that was felt and seen at this union. Even the drizzle that visited ever so frequently on the day that Derek and Vanessa said “I Will” to each other, didn’t seem to put a damper on the huge amount of love, friendship, and joy that was shared by all that sat under the stars and fairylights. There’s just something magical about small intimate weddings that just capture my heart. I know weddings and nuptial celebrations come in all forms, sizes, and types, but it’s the small ones that involve just the closest of family and friends that really give way to what makes weddings beautiful – love, joy, intimacy, closeness, and camaraderie. Those are the things that truly make photos beautiful and shine.

Thank you Derek and Vanessa for having me as part of your journey. You could have chosen ANYONE from the thousands of talents out there that you know, so please know it was a HUGE HUGE honor as a photographer. Bucketloads of love to you both. You’re an amazing pair together.
