Taking your vows for a second time has been a rising trend and more and more people are doing it. Ten years of marriage is of bigger significance than it used to be. Divorce rates have never been this high before and it is definitely something to be proud of. After ten years of being together, you are bound to have gone through some rough patches, some fights, some love, and likely some tears. But you made it through! And if you are thinking about renewing your vows, you obviously still love and respect each other. That in itself is something to celebrate. Not only is it good to celebrate this historic milestone, but it is also a wonderful opportunity to connect with old friends and get the family together for some fun. Renewing your vows allows you to reflect back on the years you have had together and remember all the great times you had, as well as get you to think of some things that you want to do together in the future.
I love what Julia wrote in her post – “We love the grand rain tree at the Church of St Ignatius with its wide reaching branches that shelter and give life; an apt metaphor for marriage. 10 years ago we wouldn’t have imagined our family as it is today, and how we’ve been able to give life to each other and our children. What makes me happy looking back at these pictures is not any idyllic imagery, but the fullness of life that we have been blessed with – the tears and laughter, the hurts and the healing. If there’s one thing we’ve learnt, it is that there is no promise of perfection in marriage, only the promises we keep to each other, and the one He has made to us. God makes all things possible, He doesn’t always make things easy. I’m grateful that He’s led us here, and I’m looking forward to walking the rest of our Camino together.”
